16 | 9:30 PM | Garcia Resende Theater | Music – Army Light Orchestra [Celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the Portuguese Army Training Directorate]

Free tickets at the TGR box office, limited to 4 per person

Based at the Military Electronics Center in Paço de Arcos, the Army Light Orchestra began its activities in 1977, succeeding a military musical group created in the then Lisbon Military Region that, in the early 1970s, caused a stir on a RDP radio program called "Alerta Está!". Two years later, it was officially established by Decree-Law to represent the Portuguese Army and collaborate with other branches of the Armed Forces and with Civilian Entities and Organizations.

Its big-band structure consists of five saxophones (flute, clarinet), four trumpets (flugelhorn), four trombones, two keyboards, two violas, drums, percussion, and three vocalists. Over the years, it has performed regularly in the country's most prestigious concert halls and with a wide range of artists and guests from the national and international music scene.
By performing light music compositions, the OLE has sought to foster appreciation for national music, developing a work of collecting, instrumenting, and disseminating popular themes. Today, it is considered a true "ambassador" of the Portuguese Army to military and civilian society, contributing significantly to the affirmation and appreciation of our cultural heritage. Furthermore, several composers, orchestrators, and arrangers have maintained a close relationship with the OLE over the years, gracing it with original and exclusive themes that often give rise to arrangements and orchestrations performed by numerous Portuguese musical groups.
The Army Light Orchestra is in high demand for performances at a wide variety of festive events, performing dozens of shows throughout the year. However, its track record extends beyond Portugal's borders, having performed numerous concerts abroad, especially for Portuguese Communities and Deployed National Forces. It also toured France and Andorra, as well as the Bosnian Theater of Operations. This significantly strengthened the connection between Portugal and its Communities (both civil and military) established in those countries, thus helping to reaffirm the image of a developed and modern Portugal.
He has two recordings, the last of which was recorded during a live performance in the Aula Magna of the Rectory of the University of Lisbon. The Army Light Orchestra has been awarded the Gold Medal for Distinguished Services.

18 | 9:30 PM | Giraldo Square | Jazz Music – Zé Cruz Trio

Production: Ass. Volatile Figure

Zé Cruz began his musical career on the guitar, inspired by the world of rock and punk.

Over the years he developed other musical interests that also led him to the world of jazz, eventually joining the Luiz Villas Boas Jazz School (Hot Clube de Portugal) and later the Lisbon Superior School of Music, where he completed his degree in Jazz.

In this context, he found a musical vehicle where he didn't need to forgo the influences that had encouraged him to start playing guitar, seeking to create a compositional bridge between his different influences.

In April 2019, he released his first album,  "Ussegundu ," the culmination of this connection between his different musical facets. To bring the compositions to life, André Rosinha (bass), Diogo Alexandre (drums), and Óscar Graça (piano) joined forces.

01 | 9:30 PM | Giraldo Square | Jazz Music – Branco plays Marco Paulo

Production: Ass. Volatile Figure

Branco toca Marco Paulo is a project by guitarist Pedro Branco, which began in 2021 and will release its album in 2025. The project is based on a reinterpretation of the vast artistic work of the famous Portuguese singer Marco Paulo in a formation still largely unexplored by Branco, the jazz trio format. He is joined by musicians João Sousa on drums and Carlos Barretto on double bass.
The project began by interpreting songs exclusively from the album "Ver e Amar" (1970), a work by Marco Paulo little known to the general public. This repertoire was joined by arrangements of well-known songs, such as "Eu Tenho dois Amores," "Sempre que Brilha o Sol," and "Joana."
The project's goal is to bring together two musical languages, quite distinct in their purpose and aesthetic, yet finding common threads within this dichotomy that transform them into significant musical moments. The invitation to one of the historic figures of Portuguese jazz, Carlos Barretto, also aims to find new solutions within distant musical ideas. The songs are stripped down to their essence, and the final result blends contemporary improvisation with classics of Portuguese pop culture, without losing the sense of humor and performative unpredictability.

Genre: Drama | Rating: M/12 | FRA, 2024, Color, 118 min.

Pierre raises his two children alone after his wife's death. Louis, the youngest, is an excellent student and progresses successfully in his studies. Fus, the eldest, is adrift. Fascinated by violence and power struggles, he becomes involved with far-right groups, which position themselves at the opposite extreme of the values his father espouses.
